Looking back….. my growth in internet marketing.

Two months ago I was not an Internet marketer. I was a 58 yr old fellow who was looking for a way to change his lifestyle. I no longer wanted to be tied to my present job 8 hours per day, 5 days a week with only two weeks of vacation each year. I wanted to be able to spend more time with my wife enjoying the houseboat we bought a couple of years ago. To reach this goal I began to explore ways to generate an income without being tied to an office. Internet marketing seemed to meet my requirements. It could be done from anyplace where I could get online and there seemed to be a lot of opportunities to generate a pretty good income. So …… I became an internet marketing collector. In other words I was collecting products that promised I could make money on line with little effort. Alex Jeffreys would say that I was chasing the dollar! I had not yet learned that “the money is in the list”   but I was beginning to learn that the money was not  “in the collection”.  Fortunately, a few weeks ago I encountered the promo materials for Alex Jeffreys coaching program, and the rest is becoming history.

In four short weeks Alex has taught me the importance of building value rather than chasing dollars. He is also equiping me with the tools to do this. Alex along with the other members of our coaching group has helped me to feel comfortable trying things which previously I would have resisted. In the past four weeks I have created a domain, obtained hosting, created a blog, changed that original blog into this wordpress blog, actually posted on the blog and have created an eBook.   I will release that eBook within a few days and invite you to return to view that effort and to read about my experiences as I progressed from blank page to finished product. Looking back…..I have progressed quite far in a short time  but this is just the start.

    Hi Ken

Thanks for comments on my blog, anyway, I think it is great that you are reviewing your progress and reflecting how you have learnt so much in the past 4 weeks with Alex. Alex Jeffrey seriously is a man who hasn’t just changed our lives since we first started but also now he’s now about to radically define and change our lives into something we couldn’t imagine and always dreamt about and that is: becoming successful online and living hte lifestyle that only oh so many can hope to learn and enjoy one day. As he said, we are definately well AHEAD of the packs by heads, shoulders, arms and knees.

Anyway, Ken, you asked about Aweber forms and how to insert them onto your blog. It’s pretty straight forward, what you do is you have to make you form on Aweber, (Aweber has some wonderful tutorial videos on this subject) then you copy the html code and paste it into a widget text box, or you can paste it into a blog post (remember to be in HTML mode) or you can copy and paste it into your sidebar.

To do the latter, you have to go to your appearances (if you’ve updated to WordPress Version 2.7 or if you are still using Wordpress 2.6.5 then select ‘Design’, then once you have done this, you need to select ‘editor’, when your in, you’ll see a list called Templates which contains lots of random titles below like header, footer, main page etc.. select Sidebar.

Now this is where it can quite complicated, you have to locate a free space in you sidebar usually separated by or header titles. A bit of html knowledge would be most beneficial.

Each theme is different so I can’t give you a definitive answer her but as mentioned above, once you have seen a gap in the code hint , you should be okay to insert the code after this, make sure you but <div before the code you just pasted and after it. I would strongly advise you on getting one of the tech guys i.e. Austin Delaney, Mark Austin, Dean Holland to name a few, to help you out with this as their knowledge is much more superior than mine.

I can’t remember whether Dean talks about it in his ebook, but you may want to check that out too. So, once you have done the above, simply click on “Update File” and you should be sorted.

Hope that helped and if you have any further question which you think I may be able to help you with- feel free to drop me a message or comment and I’ll try and get back to you asap if I’m not working at the shop or spending on my magazine and ebay businesses.

    Best Regards
    Nigel

    Hey Ken

Nigel here again, almost forgot to tell you, the most simplest way to do the above i.e insert a free ebook form, is to copy the html code from the aweber form, go to your “design” or “appearance”, select widget, then select “add text”

Next, select the new widget box you have created, move you mouse over to it and an ‘edit’ text link will appear, click on it and then paste the code it. Once done, select ‘done’ or ’save’ and finally click on “save changes” which is situated at the bottom near the right of hte widgets page.

    All the best
    Nigel

Hi Ken, you have no idea how much I can relate to your post…

It’s quite refreshing to know that I am not the only ex-collector of the team :)

I’ll be thankful to Alex forever for getting me to get off my butt, stop reading and planning and actually start doing!

The way things are going, looks like we will make history!

    Warm regards,

    Hi Ken,

Was just reading Nigel comments, you are using the same theme as me so if you need help let me know.

How’s the traffic plan coming along?!
I have put a post on my blog about traffic tactics that have worked for me so far. One of the best has been Squidoo. I only have one lens on there at present but it has been a high traffic source.

My youtube video has also had a lot of hits and driving traffic to my ppp. I haven’t used twiter to it’s full potential but the tweetmyblog plugin is very effective (details in my post).

Let me know what’s working for you!

    Hi Ken,

Are you entering Alex’s competition then Ken? Are you going to be actively trying to generate tons of traffic to your site and posting up how you are doing it?

You maybe interested to see what I’m up to. I’m putting up a post later showing exactly what Traffic Generation techniques I’m using to get my ton of traffic and make my blog number 1 amongst the students. Bold claim I know but then someone has to be number one so and win so why not me?

Oh, I and there will be a big surprise in my Traffic Generation post that will be of direct benefit to all the other students and help them win. Check out my site later (not quite ready yet .. so much to do, and so little time, lol)
